630,000 Turkish Expats in Germany to Reapply for Turkish Citizenship Under New Law

Germany Turkey

#policy

Around 630,000 Turkish expats in Germany are expected to reapply for Turkish citizenship following Germany’s new naturalisation law, effective from June 27. This law permits multiple citizenship, allowing naturalisation applicants to keep their original nationality.

Ä°brahim TaÅŸyapan, head of the Turkish population and citizenship body, stated that the new rules will benefit Turkish-origin residents in Germany. Previously, dual citizenship was not allowed, leading Turkey to issue "blue cards" to former citizens.

With the new law, many will regain Turkish citizenship. The guest worker generation, who migrated in the 1960s, will also benefit, needing only to demonstrate good German language skills without a citizenship test.

Canada

#workvisa

IRCC invited 7,500 candidates in a French language proficiency draw. The minimum CRS score was 379, the lowest since February 2024. Candidates needed to submit profiles before March 6, 2025.

This was the week's second draw and the month's fourth. So far, 30,683 ITAs have been issued in 2025. Canada continues prioritizing in-Canada applicants. Prime Minister Mark Carney supports this approach, though no mandate letter has been issued.

Express Entry profiles expire after a year. Candidates must submit new profiles to remain in the pool. The tie-breaking rule affects selection based on submission timing.

Several Germans have been detained by US immigration officials in 2025. A Green Card holder, Fabian Schmidt, was held without charge after returning from Germany. Tourists Lucas Sielaff and Jessica Brösche were detained for weeks before deportation.

Sielaff was suspected of overstaying, while Brösche was accused of trying to work illegally. Another tourist, Celine Flad, was denied entry without explanation. The German Foreign Ministry is assisting detainees and has issued a travel advisory.

The crackdown follows stricter immigration policies under President Trump. Travelers from other visa-free countries also report similar issues at US borders.

Italy Investigates 72 for Illegal Immigration Scheme

Italy

#immigration

#illegal

Italian authorities are investigating 72 people for aiding illegal immigration. The suspects include business owners and tax office managers. They allegedly filed fraudulent work visa requests under the 'decreto flussi' system.

Over 5,119 illegal applications were uncovered. The scheme aimed to bring in workers from Bangladesh, Morocco, Pakistan, and other countries. Fake documents were used to justify the requests. Many companies involved could not hire foreign workers.

Italy's financial police revoked fraudulently obtained permits. This prevented the entry of undocumented migrants. The investigation continues as authorities crack down on immigration fraud.
