630,000 Turkish Expats in Germany to Reapply for Turkish Citizenship Under New Law
Germany
Turkey
#citizenship
#policy
Around 630,000 Turkish expats in Germany are expected to reapply for Turkish citizenship following Germany’s new naturalisation law, effective from June 27. This law permits multiple citizenship, allowing naturalisation applicants to keep their original nationality.
Ä°brahim TaÅŸyapan, head of the Turkish population and citizenship body, stated that the new rules will benefit Turkish-origin residents in Germany. Previously, dual citizenship was not allowed, leading Turkey to issue "blue cards" to former citizens.
With the new law, many will regain Turkish citizenship. The guest worker generation, who migrated in the 1960s, will also benefit, needing only to demonstrate good German language skills without a citizenship test.

IRCC Projects Major Shifts in Work and Study Permit Holder Numbers Over Next Three Years
Canada

#workvisa
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) anticipates that over 500,000 non-permanent residents (NPRs) will leave or gain permanent residency in 2024. The expected NPR outflow includes work and study permit holders, along with asylum claimants and protected persons.
IRCC projects nearly 1.3 million NPR departures by 2025, to maintain NPRs at 5% of Canada’s population by 2027. Inflows are also outlined, with significant numbers through work and study permits.
IRCC’s 2024 immigration report specifies work permit categories, such as the International Mobility Program and Temporary Foreign Worker Program, to manage future NPR inflows and maintain immigration balance.

UK Confirms 45,000 Seasonal Worker Visas for 2025 to Support Horticulture and Poultry Sectors
United Kingdom
#workvisa
The UK government has announced 45,000 Seasonal Worker visas for 2025, with 43,000 allocated for horticulture and 2,000 for poultry. This decision aims to stabilize sectors reliant on temporary overseas workers during peak seasons.
Seasonal Worker visas allow six months for horticulture work and a shorter period for poultry workers. A recent survey by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) reported high satisfaction among temporary workers, with 91% having a positive experience.
Industry representatives, including the National Farmers’ Union, continue to call for a long-term worker scheme to ensure sustained growth in the UK’s food and farming sectors.

UK Sees 16% Decline in Student Visa Applications Amid Tighter Immigration Rules
United Kingdom
#studentvisa
#decline
New Home Office data reveals a 16% drop in international student visa applications in the UK from January to September 2024 compared to last year. This decrease follows recent immigration rule changes preventing most students from bringing dependants, which significantly impacted demand.
Dependant visa applications have also plummeted by 85%. This trend raises concerns for UK universities, which depend on the higher fees paid by international students.
Experts warn that strict visa rules may weaken the appeal of the UK’s global study. The government has shown no intention of reversing these restrictions, leaving universities facing potential recruitment challenges.
