Anti-immigration protests broke out across Poland over the weekend, led by far-right group Konfederacja and other nationalists. While most rallies were small, the largest in Katowice drew around 3,000 people. Protesters demanded stricter immigration controls, warning of a supposed surge in illegal migration, despite official data showing a drop in migration this year.
In Bialystok, Konfederacja’s Krzysztof Bosak called for deportations and the end of “political correctness.” A moment of silence was held for a murdered woman in Torun, though the suspect is a Venezuelan man now in custody.
Meanwhile, Warsaw witnessed rival demonstrations just meters apart, but no violence ensued. Poland recently tightened border checks with Germany and Lithuania, adding to the political heat.
