Canada Invites 648 PNP Nominees for Permanent Residency in Latest Express Entry Draw

Canada

#permanentresidence

On October 21, 2024, Canada held its 319th Express Entry draw, inviting 648 candidates nominated under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to apply for permanent residency.

Eligible candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 791. This was the 4th Express Entry draw of October. The PNP allows provinces to nominate individuals for PR based on their economic needs, making it a crucial pathway for immigration.

There are over 80 PNP streams across Canada’s provinces and territories, excluding Quebec and Nunavut. Ten PNP-specific draws have been conducted in 2024 so far.

A report by Open Rights Group warns the UK's e-Visa scheme could trigger a digital Windrush-like scandal, affecting millions of migrants. Set to replace physical immigration documents by 2025, the scheme's flawed design and implementation may leave migrants unable to prove their legal status.

Critics highlight risks such as incorrect data, system crashes, and lack of awareness. Experts urge the government to halt the rollout, citing past failures with digital schemes and the danger of leaving people unable to access services, work, or re-enter the UK. Urgent action is needed to avoid disastrous consequences.

Visa Delays and Policy Changes Cause International Student Decline in Ontario Colleges

Canada

#studentvisa

#workpermit

Thousands of international students are missing the fall semester at Ontario colleges due to visa delays and Canada's stricter study permit policies. St. Lawrence College expected 1,600 new students but enrolled only 775, citing visa issues and policy changes.

Canada's plan to cap and reduce study permits by 10% has caused uncertainty, affecting enrollment. The drop in tuition revenue has also caused colleges to face financial challenges.

Concerns over future work permits and permanent residency opportunities also make students reconsider studying in Canada. Delays in visa processing and stricter review processes further impact student arrivals.
