Canada's Agri-Food Pilot Closes as Applications Reach Cap

Canada

#permanentresidence

Canada’s Agri-Food Pilot has stopped accepting applications. The program reached its cap on February 13, 2025. Applications submitted before this date will still be processed. No extension or replacement has been announced.

The pilot, launched in 2020, offered PR to agriculture and food processing workers. Alternative PR pathways include Provincial Nominee Programs, Express Entry, the Rural Community Immigration Pilot, and the Atlantic Immigration Program.

Express Entry now prioritizes butchers under the Agri-Food category. Other agri-food workers must improve CRS scores or seek PNP options. Canada continues to refine its immigration system to meet labour market needs.

By January 2025, Greece issued 6,398 Golden Visas to Chinese investors. Türkiye, Lebanon, and Iran also had significant approvals. Over 13,000 applications remain pending in Attica alone.

Demand has surged in Thessaloniki, the Ionian Islands, and beyond. Despite higher investment thresholds, interest remains strong. Portugal and Spain ending similar programs boosted Greece’s appeal.

Spain will officially end its scheme on April 3, 2025. Greece aims to shift focus to productive investments. Authorities are working to attract investors beyond real estate. Despite recent policy shifts, the Golden Visa remains a key draw for foreign investors.

UK Expands Electronic Travel Authorisation to European Visitors

United Kingdom

#evisa

#digitalvisa

The UK is extending Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to European visitors. From April 2, 2025, eligible Europeans must have an ETA to enter the UK. This follows the rollout to non-European nationals, including those from the USA, Canada, and Australia.

ETAs enhance border security by screening travellers before arrival. Applications are quick, costing £10, and allow multiple short visits over two years. Most decisions are instant, but some take up to three days. Travellers can apply via the UK ETA app or GOV.UK. The UK aims for a fully digital border, ensuring smooth, secure travel for all visitors.

VP Vance Backs Trump's Immigration Crackdown in Border Visit

Mexico United States

#immigration

US Vice President JD Vance defended Trump’s immigration policies at the US-Mexico border. He warned that drug cartels could turn Mexico into a "narco-state." Trump vowed to wage war on these gangs, calling them a national security threat.

Vance said the US prefers Mexico to act but left military action open. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth highlighted a 98% drop in illegal crossings after deploying troops. The administration continues to strengthen border security.

Trump claims migrants fuel crime, though data shows US-born citizens commit more per capita. Immigration remains a key issue in his presidency.
