Dubai Ties Visa Renewals to Traffic Fine Payments in New Pilot

Got unpaid traffic fines in Dubai? You might need to clear them before renewing your residency visa. Dubai authorities have launched a pilot program that encourages residents to settle their fines, either in whole or via instalments, before completing their visa processes.

But don’t panic, it won’t block your visa entirely. The system is flexible and case-specific, according to GDRFA chief Lt Gen Mohammed Al Marri. This move is meant to encourage rule-following, not restrict people. And no, the rule doesn’t yet apply at Dubai Airport’s GDRFA centre.

For now, it’s just a test run, but officials hint it could expand if it proves successful.
