Conservative American commentator Candace Owens has lost her High Court challenge against Australia’s decision to deny her a visa. Immigration Minister Tony Burke blocked her entry last year under the character test, saying her visit could “incite discord” and wasn’t in the national interest.
Owens’s lawyers argued the move violated freedom of political communication, but the High Court disagreed, ruling the law valid and justified. Burke cited Owens’s controversial comments downplaying the Holocaust and linking Muslims to slavery.
He also noted her influence on the Christchurch attacker. The court ruled that the implied freedom isn’t a personal right, upholding the visa ban.
