Illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border have hit their lowest level in over five decades, according to new federal data. In fiscal year 2025, the US Border Patrol recorded about 238,000 illegal crossings, the smallest number since 1970.
Officials credit the drop to President Trump’s stricter immigration policies, including troop deployment, expanded ICE operations, and tougher asylum rules. The White House says the results prove Trump is delivering on his promise to secure the border and curb illegal migration.
Immigration experts, however, stress the need for long-term bipartisan reforms to fix America’s border security and immigration system.
