Travelling to or from Malaysia this weekend? Brace yourself. A major immigration system glitch has caused huge delays at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and land borders with Singapore since Friday.
Over 200 autogate machines failed, mostly affecting foreign passport holders. With limited manual counters, especially in Johor, long queues have frustrated tens of thousands of travellers. Officials blame a data integration issue in the MyIMMS immigration system. Malaysia’s border agency says extra staff and all manual counters are now in action to ease the jam.
Singapore’s immigration authority also warned travellers to expect slowdowns and seek help if they need to turn back. Not the weekend getaway anyone hoped for!
