India to Introduce Fast-Track Immigration for Pre-Verified Nationals at Key Airports

India

#immigration

India is launching the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at seven major airports, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru. This program, already operational in Delhi, offers fast-tracked immigration for pre-verified Indian nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders.

The process involves e-gates for quicker immigration clearance, enhancing security and convenience. Registration is free and valid for five years or until passport expiry.

Travelers must provide biometrics at designated locations. The program will expand to 21 airports, with plans to include foreign travelers in the next phase, mirroring the US Global Entry Program.

Canada

#visapolicy

Canada has unveiled new visa rules for international students, including an online portal for Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) to verify acceptance letters (LOAs) within 10 days. Failure to verify or detect fraudulent letters will result in visa cancellation.

From December 1, 2023, a new study permit form (IMM1294) must be used, with old versions being rejected. Additionally, the "Trusted Institutions Framework" promises faster processing for certain institutions in 2024.

Upcoming changes include raising the cost-of-living requirement, adjusting work-hour caps, and modifying Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility to meet labor market needs.

UK Visa Holders Urged to Switch to eVisas Amid Border Security Overhaul

United Kingdom

#evisa

#digitalvisa

The UK is replacing physical biometric residence permits (BRPs) with digital eVisas. The switch aims to enhance border security and simplify immigration document processes.

UK visa holders must upgrade to eVisas before physical documents expire in December 2024. The Home Office has allocated £4 million to support vulnerable individuals during this transition.

While the government highlights the benefits of eVisas, critics warn of potential issues like digital errors and access challenges. Concerns are growing about a possible "digital Windrush scandal" that could affect millions. The new system is set to be fully implemented by January 2025.
