Japan's Revised Immigration Bill Allows Revocation of Permanent Residency for Tax Evasion

Japan

#permanentresidence

Japan's Lower House approved a revised immigration bill allowing the government to revoke permanent residency if foreign nationals deliberately fail to pay taxes.

The bill, which is heading to the Upper House, also includes provisions for foreign workers to switch employers and extend their stay. Justice Minister Ryuji Koizumi clarified that the measure targets only those with malicious intent, not those facing financial difficulties.

Critics argue the change could deter foreign talent and cause anxiety among current residents. Despite a petition against it, the government insists it will affect only a small number of residents.

Australia Unveils Two-Tier Student Visa System to Balance Enrollment and Migration

Australia

#studentvisa

Australia has introduced a two-tier student visa system to manage international student numbers and support regional universities. The policy, set to begin before the May 17 election, prioritizes visa processing for institutions labelled as 'high priority.'

Up to 80% of their international student cap can be approved quickly, with slower processing for additional applications.

The reform aims to address rising migration concerns and ease housing pressures. Critics worry about potential delays, financial instability for universities, and Australia’s reputation as a study destination. The success of this system depends on adequate resources and its impact on balancing education and migration demands.

He reportedly ordered and participated in severe abuse of prisoners, including the use of brutal methods like the "Flying Carpet."

The Department of Justice charged him with conspiracy to commit torture and lying about visa and citizenship applications. If convicted, he faces decades in prison. U.S. and international agencies collaborated on the investigation to hold Alsheikh accountable for his crimes.
