Malaysia Detains Over 40,000 Illegal Immigrants in 2024

From January to November 2024, Malaysia’s Immigration Department conducted 17,825 enforcement operations, detaining 41,234 illegal immigrants and 1,607 employers for immigration offenses. These violations fall under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah revealed Indonesia topped the list with 12,588 detainees, followed by Bangladesh (7,822) and Myanmar (7,112).

The government continues to implement preventive measures, focusing on residential areas and the misuse of tourist visit passes. Collaborations with police, Customs, and local authorities are ongoing to enhance enforcement and ensure national security remains a top priority.

IRCC Conducts First Express Entry Draw of December for PNP Candidates

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 676 candidates in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-specific draw on December 2, 2024. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required was 705.

In November 2024, IRCC held six Express Entry draws, issuing 5,507 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Consistent draws target Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and PNP candidates. The new "In-Canada" category and Francophone immigration are expected to see increased ITAs under the Immigration Levels Plan.

Express Entry manages applications for federal economic immigration programs, with CRS scores determining invitations. Category-based selections also play a key role in aligning immigration with Canada’s needs.
