Education New Zealand (ENZ), with the Immigration Department, has released a three-minute video guide for student visa applications. The video offers tips, such as preparing documents three months ahead, providing sufficient funds, and submitting required documents in English.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) advises applying early, especially before peak visa application periods from October to March. Students must submit applications at least three months before their travel date.

INZ processed 24,541 student visa applications between January and July 2024, approving 74.8%. However, 49% of study visa applications from Indian students were rejected in early 2024.

Canada will reduce the number of study permits 2025 by 10%, targeting 437,000 approvals, down from 485,000 in 2024. Immigration Minister Marc Miller highlighted that the government is tightening temporary immigration to preserve system integrity.

New rules will limit work permits for spouses of foreign workers and master’s students. The government aims to reduce temporary residents from 6.5% to 5% of the population.

Other changes include stricter language requirements for the Post-Graduation Work Permit and increased student financial thresholds. Polls show growing public support for limiting immigration due to rising housing costs and economic strain.

Hungary to Tighten Rules on Foreign Guest Workers and Limit Non-EU Hiring

Hungary

Hungary plans stricter regulations for hiring foreign workers. Employers must prove no local workers are available before recruiting foreigners, and applications may be denied for past labor violations.

The new rules ban private agencies from hiring non-EU workers, focusing instead on training local citizens. Guest workers must leave Hungary within six days if they lose their jobs.

The government capped foreign hires 65,000 for 2024, mainly from 15 countries, including Indonesia and Belarus. New immigration laws limit guest worker permits to three years, with no path to permanent residency or family reunification.
