Poland has reinstated border controls with Germany and Lithuania from July 7 to August 5 to curb illegal immigration, with 65 total checkpoints. The move comes amid rising political pressure following the recent presidential win of nationalist Karol Nawrocki.

Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak assured that EU nationals won’t face major disruptions, as checks will mostly target vehicles carrying multiple passengers. The government says the controls aim to stop migrants entering from Belarus and to counter Germany allegedly pushing migrants back into Poland.

While Germany has proposed joint patrols, Poland declined, insisting on handling the issue solo. The situation adds fuel to the immigration debate in both countries.
