Portugal’s Constitutional Court has given the green light to special family reunification rights for Golden Visa investors, while striking down more rigid immigration rules for other residents.
The court ruled that wealthy investors can keep their privileges to bring extended family members without delay, but the government cannot impose a two-year waiting period or limit reunification for most immigrants.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa vetoed the law after the decision, sending it back to parliament for revisions. The ruling highlights Portugal’s aim to attract foreign investment while protecting basic constitutional rights for all immigrants.
