Singapore Denies Entry to Over 2,500 Visitors Monthly Amid New Security Measures

Singapore

Singapore has been turning away over 2,500 visitors yearly at its checkpoints, with increased denials following the introduction of automated immigration lanes at Changi Airport.

The Ministry of Home Affairs attributes this rise to enhanced technology and earlier checks. Concerns grew after extremist preacher Amir Hamza entered Singapore illegally in August, prompting a review of border procedures.

Singapore aims to be the first country to allow all travelers to use automated lanes by 2026. New screening methods, including facial, iris, and fingerprint recognition, have also been implemented to detect suspicious individuals.

Dutch Coalition Faces Internal Struggles Over Immigration as King Presents Agenda

Netherlands The

As King Willem-Alexander prepares to present the Dutch government’s agenda, the coalition is divided over immigration plans. Nicolien van Vroonhoven of the New Social Contract party opposes the measures if a political advisory panel rejects them, sparking backlash from the anti-immigration Party for Freedom and the conservative People's Party.

Prime Minister Dick Schoof's cabinet, formed after lengthy negotiations, faces its first major test. Meanwhile, the town of Ter Apel opened temporary shelters due to an asylum crisis, blaming the government for inaction. The coalition seeks to declare an "asylum crisis" and opt out of EU migration rules for tougher immigration control.

Israeli Military Recruits African Asylum Seekers Amid Gaza War, Promising Residency

Israel Sudan

#asylum

Israeli media reports that the government is recruiting African asylum-seekers, mainly from Sudan and Eritrea, to fight in Gaza in exchange for permanent residency. The recruitment is conducted legally, but details on how recruits will be used remain unclear.

Israel hosts about 30,000 asylum-seekers, but less than 1% are granted refugee status. Critics argue this deal violates international laws that protect asylum-seekers.

While some have volunteered, few have seen promised benefits. Advocacy groups express concern over the lack of transparency, warning that vulnerable people are being exploited for military service based on vague promises.
