Trump Open to DACA Talks While Pushing Hardline Immigration Plans

United States

#policy

President-elect Donald Trump has expressed willingness to collaborate with Democrats to address the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. He acknowledged the long-standing presence and contributions of Dreamers and suggested a bipartisan plan.

However, Trump maintained a hardline stance on other immigration policies. He reaffirmed plans for mass deportations, starting with criminals and ending birthright citizenship through executive action, despite potential legal challenges.

Addressing mixed-status families, Trump proposed deporting them together, even if some are U.S. citizens. When questioned about reinstating the zero-tolerance policy, he was noncommittal. His comments highlight a mix of cooperation and strict enforcement in upcoming immigration reforms.

Denmark Proposes Stricter Deportation Rules for Criminal Migrants

Denmark

#deport

#policy

Denmark plans to tighten deportation laws for convicted immigrants. The government proposes abolishing the current system that considers crime severity and the time spent in Denmark.

Under the new law, any foreigner sentenced to prison can be deported, regardless of crime severity or residency duration. Immigration Minister Kaare Dybvad Bek cited high crime rates among non-Western immigrants, who make up 10.6% of the population but account for over 30% of violent crimes.

The change aims to increase deportations and uphold Denmark's rule of law. Exceptions would apply only under international obligations. The law is expected to take effect in July 2025.
