UK Earns £32m from Processing Nigerian Visas in One Year

Nigeria United Kingdom

#visa

The UK earned over £32 million processing 225,000 visa applications from Nigerians between June 2023 and June 2024. Marc Owen, Director at UK Visas and Immigration, announced this at the opening of Africa's largest UK Visa Application Centre in Lagos.

A standard UK visitor visa costs $150, contributing to this revenue. However, visa rejections for Nigerians rose sharply in late 2023, with one in eight applications declined.

Issuances dropped by 63% compared to late 2022. Stricter immigration rules, including changes to dependent visas and graduate route policies, fueled these declines. The UK remains committed to accessible and efficient visa services.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to remove Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers under Express Entry by spring 2025.

Currently, valid job offers earn candidates 50 or 200 CRS points, boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. This change applies to all candidates in the Express Entry pool, including those working temporarily in Canada.

Candidates already invited or who submitted permanent residence applications will not be affected. The adjustment is temporary, with no end date announced. Express Entry evaluates profiles on age, education, and language skills.

Serbia Reinstates Visa Requirements for Qatari Citizens Ahead of EU Bid

Qatar Serbia

#visapolicy

Serbia has announced the reinstatement of visa requirements for Qatari passport holders starting December 14, 2024. The move aligns with Serbia’s efforts to meet European Union accession standards.

Qatari citizens must now obtain a visa before travelling to Serbia. However, those holding valid visas from Schengen countries, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, or the United States can still enter Serbia without additional documentation.

Serbia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the decision on December 6, 2024. This policy change reflects Serbia’s commitment to aligning its immigration framework with EU requirements while maintaining limited exemptions for specific visa holders.
