Big travel update for Batswana! The UK has revoked Botswana’s visa-free access, effective October 14, 2025, meaning citizens will now need visas to visit. The UK Home Office cited a sharp rise in asylum claims 1,332 since 2022, including 147 just this year as the main reason.
The move comes shortly after Botswana launched its new Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program, though UK officials deny any link. A six-week grace period until November 25 allows pre-booked travelers with valid Electronic Travel Authorizations to enter without a visa.
Despite the change, UK officials say relations with Botswana remain strong and that the policy will be reviewed based on future immigration trends.
