UK Work Visa Changes Criticized as Immigration Rules Tighten

United Kingdom

The UK's Skilled Worker visa changes have led to increased asylum claims, says the National Audit Office (NAO). Asylum claims from visa holders surged from 53 in 2022 to 5,300 in 2024.

The Home Office underestimated visa demand, issuing 931,000 instead of 360,000. Care worker visa rules were relaxed in 2022 but later tightened. The NAO says the government lacks data on visa impacts.

The minimum salary for Skilled Worker visas rises to £25,000 from April 9. Over 470 care sector sponsors lost licenses due to fraud. A White Paper will propose further immigration reforms.

The US government plans to increase deportations, including some on student visas. Vice-President JD Vance said deportations will rise if students are deemed not in the country's best interest.

House Republicans also push a bill to ban Chinese nationals from obtaining student visas. Riley Moore argues China exploits the US visa system, citing security risks. The proposed "Stop CCP VISAs Act of 2025" aims to curb Chinese student entries.

Vance also claims foreign students take top university spots over American students. He highlighted that many foreign students pay full tuition, affecting middle-class US applicants.

Why Switzerland’s Golden Visa Attracts the Uber-Rich

Switzerland

Switzerland's golden visa is a top choice for wealthy foreigners. It offers residency in exchange for investment. Non-EU nationals can qualify by paying an annual tax of at least CHF 250,000 or investing CHF 1 million in a business.

The visa allows residency, real estate ownership, and Schengen travel. Switzerland's stability, low crime, and business-friendly policies make it appealing. Citizenship is possible after 10 years.

Demand is rising, especially from Americans, Indians, and UK residents. Despite global restrictions on golden visas, Switzerland's program remains strong. Experts believe it will last for decades, unlike other European schemes that are facing uncertainty.
