The UN's special rapporteur, Ashwini KP, has expressed concern over France's immigration bill, deeming it "unequal" and violating constitutional commitments to equality. The legislation, aimed at reducing migration, faces scrutiny from the Constitutional Council.

The proposed measures, including quotas and changes to birthright citizenship, have sparked protests in various cities. Ashwini KP urges amendments to protect marginalized communities.

The bill's impact on foreign students and provisions favouring UK second homeowners has raised controversy. The Constitutional Council will determine the law's alignment with French constitutional principles. Recent protests drew tens of thousands opposing the legislation.

The Biden administration aims to boost the International Entrepreneur Rule, initially implemented in the Obama era but hindered during Trump’s presidency. New data shows limited applications due to uncertainty.

Since FY 2021, USCIS received 94 applications, approving 26. The rule allows DHS to grant parole to foreign entrepreneurs if their stay benefits the U.S. economy. Recent USCIS updates provide clearer guidelines for qualifying startups and investments.

This rule could help international students, especially those missing H-1B status, stay in the U.S. for up to five years. Enhanced clarity aims to attract more entrepreneurial talent to the U.S.

Chinese students dominate asylum claims in Australia as the country tightens international education visas. The number of Chinese students seeking asylum is higher than any other nationality. In May, there were 357 asylum applications, up from 239 in April.

Ex-Department of Education Deputy Secretary Abul Rizvi predicts continued growth in student asylum claims due to visa restrictions. Despite lower visa approval rates overall, Chinese student visas are approved at nearly 94%.

Critics question why Chinese students are favoured when they lead protection claims. Labour and the Coalition adopt tougher stances on temporary migration ahead of the federal election.
