Undocumented Immigration Drops 98% from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela

Cuba United States

#illegal

Illegal immigration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has decreased by 98% since 2022. Analysts attribute this to the Biden administration's legal pathways, a June 2024 asylum order, and Mexico’s cooperation.

New data reveals that September 2024 border encounters (53,858) are lower than those in January 2021, at Trump’s term-end. Humanitarian parole programs allow lawful entry for 30,000 monthly and provide work authorization, leading to a drop in illegal entries.

Policies like the CBP One app and Title 42 exceptions reduce unlawful migration. Analysts argue that legal pathways are more effective and humane than increased enforcement alone.

In 2025, France will enforce stricter language requirements for residence permits. Under the 2024 immigration bill, applicants for multi-year permits will need conversational French (A2 level), while those seeking ten-year permits must reach a lower intermediate (B1) level.

The citizenship requirement rises to B2. The French government will begin an early “experimental” rollout in July 2025. Applicants must also answer questions about French history and secularism, verifying understanding beyond language skills.

In 2023, France issued 36,340 residence permits, primarily to Moroccans, Algerians, and Tunisians. These changes aim to enhance integration and strengthen societal cohesion.

Canada to Lower Permanent Resident Admissions in 2025-2027 for Sustainable Growth

Canada

#decline

Canada will reduce permanent resident admissions over the next three years, targeting a 27% cut by 2027. The new 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan aims to slow population growth to manage housing, infrastructure, and social service pressures.

In 2025, Canada will admit 350,000 permanent residents, dropping from 500,000. By 2026, this will rise slightly to 380,000, with 365,000 planned in 2027. Temporary resident volumes will also decline, aiming to reach 5% of Canada’s population by 2026.

Through these measures, the government intends to ensure sustainable, managed growth, prioritizing economic stability and long-term prosperity for immigrants and Canadians.
