US Pauses Green Card Lottery After University Shooting Case

The US Department of Homeland Security has paused the green card lottery program, also known as the Diversity Visa Program. Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem said the move follows revelations that the suspected Brown University and MIT shooter entered the US through the diversity visa system in 2017 and later received a green card.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services has been directed to halt the DV1 program immediately due to public safety concerns. Officials have not shared how long the pause will last. The green card lottery offers up to 50,000 immigrant visas each year, mainly to applicants from underrepresented countries.

What do you think, should the diversity visa program be reformed or restored quickly?
