Canada’s Immigration Backlog Keeps Shrinking - Here’s What You Need to Know

Great news for hopeful newcomers! IRCC continues to reduce its immigration application backlog, which dropped to 760,200 by April 30, 2025, a 2.5% decrease from March. This marks the fifth consecutive month that the backlog has remained below one million.

Though Express Entry and PNP applications are still running higher than target delays, family sponsorship and citizenship applications are mostly on track. Temporary residency programs like study permits, visitor visas, and work permits are also showing improvement.

With smart tech, stricter caps, and the 2025-27 Immigration Levels Plan in play, IRCC is steadily getting things back on track. Let’s hope this momentum continues. Are your applications moving forward, too?
