Great news from Germany: more immigrants are arriving with university degrees than ever before! A new report from the Rockwool Foundation Berlin (RFBerlin) shows that 32.1% of non-EU migrants in Germany held a university degree or equivalent in 2024, up from 30.9% last year. For EU migrants in Germany, the proportion with higher education increased to 30.1%, up from 28.6%.

Experts say this rise in skilled migration brings big potential for the EU labor market. However, there’s a catch; approximately one in four skilled foreign workers may leave Germany, citing discrimination and better opportunities elsewhere. With foreign workers now accounting for 16% of the workforce, particularly in the healthcare sector, Germany needs to focus on retaining its top talent.
