The US has deported five migrants originally from Vietnam, Cuba, Yemen, Laos, and Jamaica to Eswatini, a small African country known for its harsh human rights record. The men, all convicted of serious crimes, were refused entry by their home countries.

So, the US sent them to Eswatini under its third-country deportation policy, which the Supreme Court recently upheld. Eswatini, an absolute monarchy ruled by King Mswati III, confirmed that the men are being held in prison.

This move has sparked concern, as Eswatini faces reports of torture and poor prison conditions. Critics say it’s part of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration policy, which now allows deportation with just six hours’ notice.
