Canada Conducts First Express Entry Draw of July, Issuing 920 ITAs

Canada's Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 920 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739. This follows recent program-specific draws.

On June 19, 1,499 candidates were invited to another PNP draw with a CRS score of 663. The May 30 draw invited 2,985 candidates, and the May 31 draw invited 3,000 from the Canadian Experience Class.

Program-specific draws target candidates from specific Express Entry programs or those with enhanced PNP nominations. IRCC aims to stabilize the number of temporary residents by offering them permanent residency options.

UK Investors Flock to Greece’s Golden Visa Program with 58% Increase

The number of Britons obtaining residence permits in Greece through the Golden Visa Program surged by 58% in the past year, per the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum.

The UK now ranks fourth among countries with the most residence permits issued through this program. From May 2023 to May 2024, 444 permits were issued to British investors, up from 281 the previous year.

The increase followed changes to the Golden Visa Program and Brexit, prompting more Britons to invest in Greek real estate. The program allows investors to gain residency and travel freely within the EU.

China Sees 152.7% Surge in International Arrivals in First Half of 2024

From January to June, China saw a 152.7% rise in international arrivals, with immigration authorities handling 287 million entries and exits, up 70.9% year-on-year. Mainland residents made 137 million entries and exits, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan residents 121 million, and foreigners 29.22 million.

Notably, 8.542 million people entered visa-free, a 190.1% increase. China recently introduced visa-free entry for New Zealand, Australia, and Poland citizens for up to 15 days.

In the same period, 12.34 million passports and 46.152 million entry permits were issued. Authorities also handled 18,000 border-related crimes and seized 4.8 tons of drugs and 786 firearms.

Alberta Introduces New AAIP Pathway for Law Enforcement Professionals

Alberta is launching a new pathway under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) for law enforcement professionals. This pathway aims to support Alberta's police services by meeting recruitment goals and addressing crime.

In 2024, 50 nominations will be available through this Express Entry-aligned stream. Eligible candidates must have a job offer from an employer in the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police and meet all Express Entry criteria.

Occupations include police officers and specialized law enforcement roles. The AAIP features several streams to address labour market gaps and demographic needs in Alberta.
