EU Seals Tough Migration Deal With Offshore Return Hubs

The European Union has agreed on a tough new EU migration deal that speeds up deportations and allows offshore return hubs for rejected asylum seekers. From June 2026, EU states can detain migrants longer and send them to safe third countries they passed through.

The plan includes EU-wide deportation rules, faster asylum rejections, and a €420 million solidarity fund to support frontline countries such as Italy and Greece. A shared list of safe countries will also speed up asylum decisions.

Supporters say the deal restores control and weakens smugglers. Critics warn that it risks human rights violations and feels overly harsh. What do you think, stronger borders or a step too far?
