The UK Home Office has launched a new campaign warning foreign students that they will be removed if they overstay their visas. Around 130,000 international students and their families will be contacted directly, with messages stressing that bogus asylum claims will be swiftly rejected and overstayers forced to leave.
The move comes after a sharp rise in students applying for asylum once visas expire, 16,000 last year, nearly six times higher than in 2020. Critics, including the University and College Union, call it an attack on international students. Do you think this crackdown will secure the visa system or damage Britain’s reputation as a study destination?
