Fifteen French and UK human rights groups, including Utopia 56 and Doctors of the World, are urging France to suspend the controversial “one in, one out” asylum treaty with the UK. The deal sends one asylum seeker back to France for every one accepted into the UK.
Critics argue that it violates human dignity and the French constitution, as the parliament never ratified it. Many asylum seekers who returned to France report unsafe living conditions, poor healthcare, and fear of being sent back to war-torn countries.
The UK Home Office defends the agreement, calling it a key step to tackle illegal migration and strengthen border control.
