Bournemouth saw tensions rise as more than 300 people joined an immigration protest led by the Bournemouth Patriots with a “stop the boats” message. The march followed a pre-agreed route along Meyrick Road, ending near the Lansdowne.
Counter-protesters, including Stand Up to Racism, matched the turnout, chanting “refugees are welcome here.” Union Jack and England flags filled the streets as chants from both sides echoed.
Dorset Police said they respected the right to peaceful protest but imposed conditions to ensure safety and minimise disruption. Officers also warned demonstrators about offences if the rules weren’t followed. This was the latest in a string of immigration protests to hit the town.
