Healthcare leaders have warned that the NHS could crumble under Labour’s new visa rules for foreign workers. The plan would double the time overseas staff must wait to apply for indefinite leave to remain from five to ten years and restrict access to benefits.
The Royal College of Nursing called the proposal “divisive and ignorant,” saying the health and care sector depends on migrant workers. Over 800 NHS staff signed a letter condemning the policy as “xenophobic,” warning it will drive nurses and doctors away amid existing staff shortages.
Critics say the rule will worsen poverty among migrant families and threaten the stability of vital UK healthcare services.
