Nigeria Offers Amnesty to Visa Overstayers to Regularise Status

Nigeria just launched a five-month visa amnesty programme for foreigners with expired immigration status. From May 1 to September 30, 2025, visa overstayers can now regularise their status without penalties, according to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The Expired Visa Initiative applies to individuals with expired Visa on Arrival (VoA) visas, single- or multiple-entry visas, and CERPAC holders who are overdue by more than 30 days. The goal? Boost compliance with the New Visa Regime, improve migration data, and ease pressure from illegal overstays.

Affected individuals can apply at amnesty.immigration.gov.ng. The NIS promises a smooth process and support, so if your visa’s expired, now’s the time to fix it, penalty-free.
