Nigeria Refuses US Request to Accept Deported Venezuelans

Nigeria is standing firm against US pressure to accept deported Venezuelan migrants, many of whom are ex-prisoners. Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar made it clear the country won’t take on others’ problems, stating, “We have enough problems of our own.”

This move comes amid rising tensions between the US and BRICS+ countries, of which Nigeria recently became a member. President Trump has threatened 10% tariffs on BRICS+ imports and reportedly urged several African leaders to accept third-country deportees.

Tuggar dismissed claims of visa policy reciprocity, saying Nigeria continues to issue long-term visas to Americans. Nigeria insists it won’t bow to Trump’s immigration demands.
