Nigeria Replaces Visa-on-Arrival with Pre-Arrival Clearance for Security
Nigeria
#visa
Nigeria will end its visa-on-arrival policy, replacing it with a stricter pre-arrival clearance system. Interior Minister Tunji-Ojo called the current process unsustainable and a security risk. The new system, starting between March and April 2025, will require background checks via Interpol and other agencies.
The move aims to enhance security and border management. 100 immigration officers were trained in using Advance Passenger Information (API) for screening. Officials stress the importance of intelligence sharing.
The policy shift follows global security commitments. The training was supported by international partners to strengthen Nigeria’s immigration system.

Ontario PNP Pathways to PR in 2025: Current Status and Changes
Canada
#workvisa
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has issued only four invitations in 2025. This follows Canada’s decision to halve PNP immigration allocations.
The Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream is the only stream that has issued ITAs so far. However, all streams are accepting new Expressions of Interest (EOIs). Express Entry-aligned streams remain open, with Ontario issuing Notifications of Interest (NOIs).
PNPs across Canada are adjusting to reduced quotas. Some provinces are negotiating with IRCC for more spots by accepting humanitarian immigrants. The OINP has no plans to close any streams but has not announced when draws will resume.

An Indonesian man, Iyus, will be Japan’s first foreign bus driver under the expanded Specified Skilled Worker visa. He arrived in Japan in 2013, studied Japanese, and worked at a travel agency before joining Nikko Kanko Bus Co.
He passed the required tests in December and will start as a tour bus driver in April 2025. Japan faces a driver shortage, with 22,000 needed by 2029.
To address this, the government expanded the visa to include road transport. Japan plans to admit 24,500 foreign drivers over five years to meet growing demand.
