Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian refugee raised in Syria, was detained by the US immigration. He led student negotiations at Columbia University’s pro-Palestinian protests.
ICE agents arrested him at his home, claiming his student visa was revoked. His lawyer says he is a legal US resident with a green card and a US citizen wife. His location remains unclear. His wife, eight months pregnant, was also threatened with arrest.
Trump’s executive order calls for deporting “pro-jihadist protesters.” Some Jewish students say protest rhetoric was antisemitic. The US revoked $400m in grants to Columbia, citing failure to combat antisemitism.
