Care providers across the UK were hit with almost £600,000 in fines in just three months for employing illegal workers, new Home Office data shows. Ten firms, including Cadre Healthcare, which was fined £210,000, and Jayco Recruitment, which was fined £105,000, were among those caught between January and March 2025.
The crackdown comes as fines for hiring staff without the right to work have tripled, with first offences now costing up to £45,000 per worker. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has also tightened care worker visa rules, pushing firms to hire British nationals instead of relying on overseas staff. Do you think this tough stance will resolve staffing issues or exacerbate the care crisis?
