The Short-Stay Visa for Remote Workers was formally established by the Panamanian government in May 2021. The Covid-19 aftermath had an impact on how people worked, which is why the initiative was taken. Panama seeks to draw digital nomads and freelancers who will support the economy through investment and consumption by providing a digital nomad visa.

Eligibility

The following eligibility conditions must be met to obtain this visa:

  • To carry out duties that have an impact abroad.
  • To have a transnational contract with a foreign corporation.
  • Possess a yearly income from outside Brazil of at least 36,000 balboas, or the equivalent in another currency.

Documents

You must provide,

  • Three passport-sized coloured photographs of the applicant..
  • A copy of the applicant's medical insurance, which must be current for both Panama and the duration of the applicant's stay.
  • Evidence that the foreign company actually exists where it is registered.
  • The applicant's general information, positions and functions, monthly income, work mode (remote), and commitment to bear the costs of return or repatriation if necessary are all listed in a letter on corporate letterhead that is signed by the legal representative.
  • Sworn rejection of a job offer or service provided on the national territory.
  • A receipt of the visa fee paid to the National Immigration Service.
  • Proof that you have an annual income of 36,000 USD.

A digital nomad visa to Panama is valid for nine months. You must abide by the country's laws and visa regulations during your stay. After this time, you may extend your stay.

Fees
The cost of applying for a visa to work as a digital nomad in Panama is low. Panama offers reasonably low fees as compared to other nations that grant visas for digital nomads. The 250 USD for the National Immigration Agency and the 50 USD for the Visa Card are included in the visa fees.

Extension

The permit is extendable for an additional nine months. However, you must apply for an extension before your visa expires. Otherwise, you may have to reapply for the visa.
