Migrants to the UK will soon need to pass an A Level standard English test under new immigration rules introduced in Parliament. The Home Office says the move will ensure newcomers can “learn our language and play their part.”
The changes, part of the government’s immigration white paper, also shorten the post-study work visa to 18 months and raise the Immigration Skills Charge by 32% to fund British worker training. Student visa finance requirements will rise, too.
Meanwhile, nationals from Botswana now need a visa to visit the UK. Officials say the plan aims to create a controlled, fair immigration system while still attracting global talent.
