Durham University is a globally outstanding collegiate university in Durham, England, founded in 1832. It is a public research centre of teaching and a community of extraordinary people. As a collegiate, Durham's main functions are divided between the academic departments of the university and its 17 colleges. Departments at Durham University are divided into four faculties: Science, Humanities, Social Sciences and Health, and Business School.

For over a thousand years, Durham city has been a leading centre of scholarship, and according to UNESCO World Heritage, Durham University is 3rd oldest in England. This university has developed a scholarly community with its world-leading research, a distinctive collegiate system, and transformative education. Students

A total population of 20,000 Students studies at Durham University in 2021. Its student population is made up of 75 per cent undergraduate and 25 per cent postgraduate students from worldwide and in the United Kingdom.

Around 200 student organizations and clubs run on Durham University campuses, covering art, culture, academic and games, hobbies, politics, outdoors, faith, law, politics and music interests. DSU (Durham Students' Union) provides most of these clubs and organizations with administrative and financial support.

Presently Durham University carters for more than 50 sports, organized by Team Durham. The sports facility has 26 pitches and courts for sports ranging from lacrosse to rugby to netball; additional facilities include a fitness studio, 11 boat houses and 2 AstroTurf. This university is also considered a Centre of Cricketing excellence by the Wales and England Cricket Board.

DST (Durham Student Theatre) is the central body for 27 theatre societies and 700 active members. Drama production is held in Durham City's Gala Theatre and venues around the university like Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle.

Accommodation

University provides most undergraduate students with college accommodation during their first year; after one year, students can choose to find private accommodation in subsequent years. Approximately 60 per cent of postgraduate students live in private accommodation.

Durham City has a variety of purpose-built student accommodations available across the city and surrounding areas.
