SU has over 40 academic schools and departments across seven campuses. The University of Southampton is a founder member of the Russel Group of research-intensive UK institutions. SUSU (The University of Southampton Students' Union) is the primary representative for students and offers a range of facilities to students. It operates 4 media outlets. Surge Radio is radio platform for students which airs on the internet. SUSUtv is an internet television station; it broadcasts a broad range of shows and programs live and on-demand on its website. Wessex Scene is a student newspaper published once every three weeks. The newspaper publication also publishes a magazine.

The university's Sports and Wellbeing Department runs most of the sports facilities at the University of Southampton. The university participates in several sports in BUCS Southeast Conference.

Accommodation

SU offers lots of student housing options to live close to campuses or the city centre. They have affordable rooms to suit every budget and lifestyle. The university accommodation is made up of seven halls of residence. Each hall is divided into flats, with single-occupancy bedrooms sharing a communal kitchen area. These halls also have utility facilities and areas for socialising too.
