ABOUT

Suppose you have a 10-year Resident Card or Long-Term Resident Card - EU that will expire. In that case, you may apply for its renewal or Permanent Resident Card. This card entitles you to be an unconditional and permanent resident in France. It is issued under certain conditions.

Is it difficult to get PR in France?

Due to free movement rights, obtaining permanent residence in France for EU citizens could not be simpler. 

Non-EU/EEA nationals, on the other hand, must wait a long time to obtain permanent residence in France and must be familiar with the country's immigration system.

ELIGIBILITY

You are concerned about the Permanent Resident Card if you hold a resident card expiring. This card is offered to you systematically if you:

  • have already held two consecutive resident cards.
  • or are over 60 years old.

Documents

Gather the following documents before applying:

  • Birth certificate's full copy (unless you already have a residence permit) with the most recent information.
  • Passport (pages concerning validity dates, marital status, visas and entry stamps). Or else, provide other supporting documents. For example, identity cards, consular certificates, and consular cards.
  • Proof of address with a validity period of fewer than six months.
  • Three pictures. If the request is made online: indicate the code of the e-photo (provided by the photographer or the approved cabin on the photo board).
  • Sworn statement of non-polygamy in France if you are married and are a national of a country that allows it.
  • If necessary: ​​sworn statement of compliance with the principles governing the French Republic (submitted to the prefecture). Also, a diploma or certification attesting to proficiency in French at a level at least equal to level A2 of the CEFR (unless you have over 65).
  • Proof of payment of stamp duty (to be submitted when the title is issued).

When to Apply
You need to apply at the prefecture (or sub-prefecture) within two months of your card's expiration date.

Visa Processing Time
Depending on various factors, the processing time may vary from 2 to 4 months.

Before submitting your application, consult the website of your prefecture to find out about the conditions for applying for renewal: a place of submission, making an appointment, sending the file by post, etc. To avoid going through all this, we advise you to hire a visa consultant.

The Permanent Resident Card's validity period is ten years.

Fees
The issuance of the Permanent Resident Card is chargeable. You have to pay 225 € (tax of 200 € + stamp duty of 25 € ) by fiscal stamps. You must pay 75 € (including tax of 50 € and stamp duty of 25 €) by the revenue stamps if you have a resident's card since you're the holder (or beneficiary) of a pension for a workplace accident or occupational disease.

EXTENSION

The validity of this card is ten years. Its renewal is without many conditions.
