Unless you are a national of Bhutan, the Maldives, or Nepal, a student visa is required to pursue your ambition of studying abroad in India.

You must have been accepted into an institution of higher learning that is officially recognised in order to be qualified for an Indian student visa. If approved, you will receive a visa good for the entire length of your studies, as long as it is less than five years.

People who want to travel to India and enrol in a reputable university are given Indian student visas. After receiving an offer letter from one of the Study in India partner institutions, they may submit an application for the same.

Eligibility

You are eligible for student visa if you;

  • have been invited by an educational institute in India.
  • are from a country other than Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal.
  • are an international student coming for internships, summer projects, and industrial training.

Documents

You must bring the following items while applying for a student visa:

  • A passport with a validity date that is more than 180 days
  • Two photos the size of a passport
  • An image of your passport
  • Evidence of your residence in India
  • Your online application's printed version
  • An acceptance latter from your school
  • Proof of your ability to pay your living cost in India.

Process

Once you have received the invitation from an educational institute in India, you may apply for a visa. Moreover, make sure you have all the required documents before you go on with the application.

Visa Processing Time
An Indian student visa does not have a set processing period. However, the majority of applicants will hear back within two weeks of filing their application. Even while visas can be issued fast, it's still advisable to begin the visa application procedure as soon as you have been invited to India.

How to Apply
Visitors must fill out an online application for a visa and visit the nearest consulate with a copy of the completed form and the necessary travel papers. You must wait for the confirmation after paying the visa fee.

Duration & Fees

Duration
Depending on how long the course will last, student visas can be granted for up to five years. It can be increased in India. Additionally, travellers with valid student visas may enter India from whichever port or immigration checkpoint they choose (Airport, Seaport).

Fees
Depending on your country of citizenship, the cost of the study visa will vary, with Americans paying about 102.70 USD and Britishers paying 236.70 USD. This cost only covers the visa application and you have to take care of accommodation and residence separately.

Extension

In India, students should apply for a student visa extension at least 60 days before the expiration of their student visas. They should submit an application to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO).
