ABOUT

The University of Alberta is considered a comprehensive academic and research university in Canada, founded in 1908. The University offers a variety of academic and professional courses that lead to graduate and undergraduate degrees.

The University has 4 campuses in different parts of Alberta. The University offers undergraduate studies in more than 200 fields and over 500 programs at the graduate level.

UAlberta is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network, which is an organization of 19 institutes on six continents, and it is also a member of the U15 Universities. Research performance of universities is noted in several bibliometric university rankings. In 2018, Research InfoSource ranked the University of Alberta as the fifth best research institution. This University had a research income of 513 million USD in 2017. It houses 400 different research laboratories.

STUDENTS

The University of Alberta attracts brilliant minds from all over the world. The University is considered home to about 40,000 national and international students. Out of these 40,000, about 7,000 are believed to be international. These students hail from almost 150 countries worldwide.

Two student unions represent the University of Alberta student body; the first is Graduate Student Association for all graduate students, and the second is Alberta Student Union for all undergraduate students. These unions cover a wide range of interests, whether it is academic, social, religious, cultural or recreational. Moreover, several educational programs are also managed by these representative bodies.

The Athletics department at the University of Alberta manages all athletic programs. This department manages more than 24 teams with around 500 students. Varsity teams of this University compete in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association conference. The institute offers varsity sports programs in football, basketball, cross-country, rugby, hockey, tennis, swimming, soccer, wrestling and volleyball.

Institute has two media outlets for the student population. The first is a student newspaper named The Gateway and campus radio CJSR-FM.

ACCOMMODATIONS

This University has about ten buildings to provide students with a place to feel at home. These buildings have been specified according to the academic level of the students. For instance, there are separate buildings for first-year undergraduates, upper-year undergraduates and graduate-level students.

There are many housing options for students on campus and around Edmonton. But most international students prefer living in university housing because of its convenient location. It also helps them socialize, build new friendships and grow academically.
