Those who are not residents of the European Union (EU) can join their relatives who are already living in the Czech Republic with the help of a family reunion visa. The Czech Republic has stringent immigration laws, but it also values maintaining intact families and provides a number of ways for them to do so. 

Family members who want to reside together in the Czech Republic can reunite with their spouses, kids, parents, and other relatives with the help of a family reunion visa. You can learn, work, and live in the Czech Republic alongside them if you have this kind of visa.

Eligibility

To qualify for a family reunification visa to the Czech Republic, you must be:

  • The husband or companion of a citizen of the Czech Republic.
  • Minor or adult dependent offspring of a foreign national residing in the Czech Republic.
  • A foreigner who is over 65 and unable to care for themselves but has a kid or other close relative who lives in the Czech Republic.

Documents

The following records are necessary for a Czech family reunion visa:

  • Photos must be passport-sized, in colour, and no older than six months.
  • Signed and completed application form.
  • Depending on your status, you may need to provide your marriage certificate (for spouses), joint bank statements as evidence that you reside together (for partners), birth certificates (for parents and children), etc.
  • Documents demonstrating that you have a place to remain in the Czech Republic, such as a house or flat owned by a relative.
  • You must provide proof that your health insurance covers the Schengen region for at least 60,000 EUR.

Process

You must hand deliver the application form to the Czech Republic embassy in person if you want to register for a family visa for the country. The Ministry of Interior will review the request and the answer after receiving it from the embassy.

Visa Processing Time
You must wait to hear back from the application once you've submitted it. A Czech visa for family reunification takes 90 to 120 days to complete. You will receive an email or SMS with the result once it has been completed.

A long-term residency certificate is given upon filing for family reunification. Its validity corresponds to that of your reunited partner's residence pass. It is good for at least a year. You can file for permanent residency after five years of residence in the Czech Republic.

In the Czech Republic, a family passport costs CZK 2,500, or about 100 EUR. When you file for the visa, you must pay in cash or with a bank card.
