Medical Treatment Visa South Africa

About

A Medical Treatment Visa in South Africa allows a foreign national to receive specialised medical care. The country is equipped with advanced healthcare facilities that can treat almost any ailment or injury.

Medical facilities are of excellent quality, with specialists in every discipline of modern medicine.

Another advantage of choosing South Africa as a treatment location is that the therapies are affordable for foreign nationals, particularly those from nations with better currency rates.

Eligibility

The following requirements must be fulfilled to qualify for a Medical Treatment Visa for South Africa.

  • A letter of confirmation from the applicant's licenced medical professional or medical centre in the Republic.
  • The medical facility has that space available.
  • Treatment's projected expenses.
  • Whether or not the illness or sickness is curable.
  • Time and specifics of the Republic's therapy.

Documents

All applications for medical purposes should provide the following documents.

  • Include a medical practitioner a medical institution's letter describing the nature of the illness, the reason/necessity for treatment, the duration of treatment, and the specifics of the appointment/s made in South Africa.
  • Include complete information about the person or organisation responsible for the hospital fee and medical expenses. If your employer or medical scheme will be responsible for the expenses, proof of medical coverage must be provided.
  • People who need medical care for more than three months must apply for a temporary residency permit.
  • Patients transported by emergency flights or vehicles who do not have a visa will be allowed entry. Immigration officers will make their entry easier by not requiring clearance.
  • However, the person in charge of the urgent flight (or the pilot, the person driving the vehicle, or the aircraft/vehicle owner) must report the patient's entry and presence to a Department of Home Affairs office as soon as possible.
  • An immigration officer will visit the patient and, if necessary, issue the required medical permit. If the patient's passport is not valid, a permit will be issued to legalise the ill person's stay for the duration of the hospitalisation.
