About

Foreigners are only granted Work Visas if there are no positions available for South African natives with the required skills. This visa is granted for a specific amount of time. It varies depending on the type of work visa applied for, and applications are submitted through Visa Facilitation Services Centres (VFS) across the country. Or the nearby South African Embassy, Mission, or Consulate abroad.

Apart from the general Work Visa, you may also apply for the following.

  • A Critical Skill Work Visa
  • Intra-company Transfer Work Visa

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must;

  • have a proper job in the country.
  • meet all the requirements and provide the necessary documents.

Documents

You need to provide the following documents. 

  • A signed application form by the applicant 
  • The applicant's passport needs to be valid for at least 30 days after the intended visit's expiration date.  
  • Payment of the applicable fee.
  • If the Act requires it, a vaccination certificate. 
  • Proof of financial ability to cover anticipated living costs in the Republic till the applicant is paid. 
  • Medical and X-ray reports.
  • Since the age of 18, a certificate of police clearance from every country where you have lived for 12 months or longer. 
  • A written undertaking by the employer where he accepts responsibility for the costs associated with the applicant and their dependent family members' deportation, if necessary.

Process

The Department of Home Affairs grants Temporary Visas or Work Permits for the sake of work. Temporary residence visa applications are processed and completed at the Department of Home Affairs' foreign offices. You should only plan your trip once the permit has been approved.

Visa Processing Time
Thirty days is the processing time (Consulate dependent). After the application is granted, the employee can go to South Africa to begin employment.
