Student Visa Spain

ABOUT

A Student Visa allows you to study or train, participate in a student exchange, or work as an unpaid intern in Spain for more than three months. Citizens of the European Union and Switzerland are not required to obtain a visa to study in Spain.

Spanish Student Visas come in various forms and are valid for varying periods.

Student Permit - less than 3 months ( or 90 days)
Students from regions eligible for visa-free entry for up to 90 days. You can enrol in a course without obtaining a student visa if the course is less than 90 days in length.

Short-term Student Visa - between 3 and 6 months
Because less paperwork is required, the application is simpler than the one for longer courses. Under no circumstances can a Short-term Student Visa be extended.

Long-term Student Visa - for 6 months plus
Students must apply for a student residence card. Apply for it at an immigration office within one month of arrival, in addition to completing the visa application.

To be eligible, you must:

  • you must be offered a place on a course before applying for a Student Visa in Spain.

Process

Before applying for a Student Visa in Spain, applicants must be offered a spot on a course. In order to allow enough time for visa processing, the application should be submitted two to three months before the trip to Spain.

When to Apply
You should not apply for the visa as long as you have some surety of securing admission in Spain. After that, you should know the time it will take for visa processing.

Visa Processing Time
The processing time may be according to the category you are applying for. A permit for less than 3 months takes the least time, while the time to process is maximum for a Long-term Visa. It will help if you try to submit the visa application 2-3 months before you need it.

How to Apply
The process of application is online. Gather your documents, pay the visa fee and wait for the confirmation. You may consult a visa consultant if needed.
