Workers from outside the European Union must obtain a Work Visa in order to live and work in Spain. This is a Long-stay Visa. Only citizens of a few European countries are eligible to relocate to Spain and work there without a visa. Is it easy to get a work visa in Spain?

The requirements for obtaining a Permanent Resident Visa in Spain as a non-EU national are simple. You must stay in Spain for a minimum of five years. After that, you can begin the process of applying for permanent residency, also known as long-term residency. It is also referred to as residencia de larga duración.

Eligibility

Following are certain requirements to get your work permit in Spain as a worker.

  • You cannot apply for this visa unless you are in Spain, and your company will initiate the application process.
  • Not every job offer will be accepted. The specific job post must be on a shortage list that takes into account Spain's current unemployment situation.
  • If you are self-employed, you must carefully create and submit your business plan to one of the five institutions in Spain that are responsible for accepting them.

How to Apply
There are four different ways through which you can apply for a work permit in Spain. 

  • The entrepreneur visa and the highly skilled visa are the two visas that fall under the entrepreneur law (and which you can apply for once inside Spain).
  • If you want to create your own business (por cuenta propia) or work for a corporation in Spain, you'll need a standard work permit (por cuenta ajena). In either instance, you must begin the application process in your home country.
  • As a family member of a European Union citizen, you can also obtain residence and work authorisation.
