About

Foreigners who have work contracts in Algeria for three months or less require a temporary work visa. They also need a work permit for working there. A temporary work visa is a provisional work authorization given by services in charge of employment in Algeria. Employment services also provide a certificate to confirm that employer will undertake all the financial responsibilities of the employee for returning to their country once the contract is over. 

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria to get a temporary work permit for Algeria are given as:

  • Having the authorization to work for short term
  • Valid documentation to show the purpose of travelling to Algeria
  • One must be able to bear the travel and stay expenses
  • A strong reason to return to your country
  • Clean criminal record
  • Physical fitness according to requirements

Documents

Mandatory documents are listed below:

  • Work permit from the Algerian employment office
  • The original passport with 6 months of validity and at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form
  • 3 passport size fresh photographs
  • Proof of employment status – company’s letter or any other proof with a copy of the work contract
  • Invitation letter from an Algerian host or Algerian travel agency – if you have any – and a copy of the host’s ID, passport, or consular card
  • Bank statement or pay slip to show the financial resources
  • In the case of minor visa applicants, there must be a consent letter from the parents

Process

How to apply
There are various ways to apply for a temporary Algerian work visa:

  • In-person: For applying in person, you have to make an appointment with the relevant embassy.
  • By mail: Another way to apply for the visa is by mail if the relevant consulate office supports this route.
  • By proxy: It also depends upon the rules of the concerned embassy. You have to send an authority letter to declare the permission of applying on your behalf.
  • By visa agency: If you are applying through a visa agency, then the application submission is their responsibility.  

Applying through the mail, you must add a pre-paid envelope with your address for receiving the passport and visa. In the case of applications sent by courier, lost documents will not be the responsibility of the embassy. Application dropped to letterbox of Algerian embassy is not processed.

Visa Processing Time
The normal visa processing time for Algeria is 10 to 15 working days if there is no issue with documents. But, if some additional documents are required or previously submitted documents are incomplete or wrong then it can take more time. While applying by mail, make sure to enter the entry date to Algeria on the application form.

For a temporary work visa to Algeria, the maximum duration of stay is 90 days.

Fees
Algerian visa fees are not fixed to apply to all. Fees vary from country to country and exact fee information can be obtained from the relevant Algerian embassy or consulate office.

Moreover, temporary work visa fees for Algeria depend upon the number of entries (single, multiple, short stay, long stay). Payment methods are also different depending upon the route of application.

Extension

A temporary work visa for Algeria has a maximum duration of 3 months and the date of exit is mentioned on the visa. Algeria visa extension is possible but you have to apply at least 15 days before the expiry date of the original visa.

An extension application must be submitted to Algeria's foreign office with a proper reason for the extension. Also, the Algerian host who invites you should be present with you at the time of application. Making up the decision after evaluation of the case is totally up to the Algerian administration.
