About

For airport transit, tourist or business travels for stays up to 90 days within six months, the US or other EU residents in possession of a valid passport (at the time of your intended departure from Belgium, your passport should still be valid for at least another three months) are exempted from the visa requirement.

Other travellers can apply for a Schengen visa, which permits them to travel freely within the Schengen region for up to 90 days after entering Belgium or another Schengen nation.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • above a certain age
  • visiting the country for a limited amount of time.

Documents

Provide the following documents as you apply for this visa.

  • A passport or other official travel document issued within the last ten years validates a minimum of three months longer than the applicant's expected to stay.
  • One passport-size colour picture.
  • Properly completed, date-stamped, and signed visa application.
  • Proof of travel arrangements.
  • Evidence of accommodation
  • Proof of having the necessary financial resources to survive the planned journey.

Process

When to Apply
Apply minimum 15 days before the date you want to depart. Three weeks are needed for processing. Six months before your departure date is the latest you may apply.

Visa Processing Time
The visa usually takes 10-15 days to process. It may take longer in some cases.

How to Apply
There are three ways to apply for this visa.

  • Apply at the Consulate or Embassy of the single Schengen nation you wish to visit. 
  • If you want to go to more than one Schengen nation, apply for a visa at the Consulate or Embassy of the country you expect to visit most (i.e. place of your most extended stay). 
  • If you don't have a primary destination but want to go to multiple Schengen nations, apply for a visa at the Consulate or Embassy of the country where you will be arriving first.

Extension

Generally, you cannot extend your visa. Though, in some cases, you can extend your visa, you are required to have exceptional reasons, and you may also have to get out of the country to do that.
